It's quite possible you've never been in a dental office like MINT. Our practice was founded on the concept of utilizing the absolute latest state of the art advancements in dental care. It's a well known fact that many dentists today are using 10 to 20 year old equipment and that's one reason many people avoid simple tooth exams and cleaning. But a completely new kind of dentistry is practiced at MINT. And technology changes everything.
Cosmetic dental patients always wonder, "What will my new smile look like?" They worry they'll be disappointed with the results. That's why MINT is one of the few dental spas in the country to offer the Enhanced Smile Camera. We'll take a picture of you and in a few minutes show you exactly what you would look like with a new smile. We even print the pictures out and give the "Before" and "After" photos to you to take home at no charge. So instead of just imagining what you would look like with a new smile, now you know. But be warned . . . you'll love the new you! The photos have left many patients gasping with excitement.
Our digital X-rays are preferable to the old fashioned X-rays for several reasons. One, is the extraordinary amount of clairity they offer. Digital X-rays allow us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs. Older X-ray technology simply doesn't provide the wealth of information we get with digital X-rays. The second reason is that digital x-rays produce a fraction of the radiation of older X-rays. Radiation exposure from dental X-rays has recently been a news topic, but this issue simply doesn't exist with digital x-rays. Third, digital imaging allows us to store patient images, and enables us to quickly and easily transfer them to specialists or insurance companies. Finally of course, our doctors can view the X-rays along with our patients on a computer screen, so everybody can more easily understand what's going on.
Many dentists use old-fashioned air-driven "hand-pieces" (the dental term for "drills"). Doctors Harrison and Kweik use only electric hand pieces. A dentist's drill is one of those things you only notice when one is being used in your mouth. The old fashion hand-pieces have a high pitched whiney sound that can truly set your teeth on edge. The electric pieces are much quieter, more comfortable and produce less vibration. Also, the old fashioned air-powered hand pieces all have a degree of non-concentricity; they do not rotate perfectly smoothly. But our drills do rotate smoothly, meaning a more precise outcome resulting in extraordinarily exact interfaces between your tooth and your new restoration whether it be a (crown, veneer, or filling).
We do everything possible to take the mystery out of dentistry. One way we do that is show you what we see in your mouth. By combining a TV screen with intraoral camera technology, we can enhance your understanding of your diagnosis. An intraoral camera is a very small camera - in some cases, just a few millimeters long that allows our doctors to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums, and broadcast that image on a flat plasma screen so you can see what we see. With clear, defined, enlarged images, you see details that you have never seen in the mirror. When you see a cavity, it's very eye opening! Intraoral cameras also enable our practice to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These images can be printed for you, other specialists, and your lab or insurance companies.
One of the most un-fun things about going to a dentist is getting your teeth cleaned. Besides the time involved, many people dread the constant scraping and scratching of their teeth by the bulky metal hand scalers that are part of the process. That's why MINT is one of the few practices to use the Cavitron, an ultrasonic state-of-the-art instrument that removes tartar from both above and below the gum line quickly and gently. The Cavitron employs oscillating sound waves to softly vibrate the tartar away from your teeth. And it vibrates at the speed of sound so quickly that you can hardly feel any movement making it ideal to administer deep cleaning and gum therapy without the need for anesthetic.
Everyone who has ever had a dental procedure has said to themselves, "Isn't there a way to make the Novocaine injection wear off faster?" Well, yes there is. And MINT has it! It's called Oraverse, and it allows our patients to return to normal sensation twice as fast, plus they can smile, speak, drink normally sooner, and drooling is minimized. So if you learn you have an important business meeting a couple hours after your root canal at MINT you don't have to reschedule. We'll make sure your smile is in presentation shape.
Why should you care about what kind of light a dentist is aiming at your mouth. Because the older lights can actually cause dental bonding agents to harden up prematurely, meaning the dentist has to start over building your crown or bridge. MINT'S Helios System can drastically reduce the spectrum within the within the 400nm-500nm range which if you know anything about lighting is incredibly cool. If you don't know a whit about lighting, it means your dental restoration in your mouth won't set until the dentist is ready for it to. It all translates into less time in the dental chair.
